Gamunex-C IVIg Infusion Therapy

What is Gamunex-C?

Gamunex-C is a biologic, intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) drug used to treat primary immunodeficiency (PI) disease in patients 2 years and older, immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP)

How does Gamunex-C work?

Primary Immunodeficiency

People with PI disease experience frequent and recurring infections because they lack healthy infection-fighting proteins in their blood called antibodies. Gamunex-C contains antibodies derived from healthy human blood, which helps PI patients fight off serious bacterial and viral infections. Studies have shown that patients receiving Gamunex-C had 2 times fewer sinus infections, which is the most common infection experienced by PI patients.

Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura

Patients with ITP have defective immune systems that make antibodies that destroy blood clotting cells called platelets. Gamunex-C can quickly increase platelet counts to control bleeding.

Chronic inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy

Gamunex-C provides CIDP patients with healthy antibodies to block the immune and inflammatory processes that attack and destroy the myelin sheath (protective nerve coverings).

How is Gamunex-C administered?

Gamunex-C is administered intravenously once every 3 to 4 weeks. The dose depends on age and body weight. Each infusion lasts approximately 3 hours.
