Octagam IVIg Infusion Therapy

What is Octagam?

Octagam 5% and 10% liquid solutions are biologic, intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) drugs used to treat primary immunodeficiency (PI) disease in patients 2 years and older and immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) in adults, respectively.

How does Octagam work?

Primary Immunodeficiency

People with PI disease experience frequent and recurring infections because they lack healthy infection-fighting proteins in their blood called antibodies. Gamunex-C contains antibodies derived from healthy human blood, which helps PI patients fight off serious bacterial and viral infections.

Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura

Patients with ITP have defective immune systems that make antibodies that destroy blood clotting cells called platelets. Octagam can quickly increase platelet counts to prevent and control bleeding.

How is Octagam administered?

Octagam is administered intravenously. Octagam 5% (for PI): Once every 3 to 4 weeks for 12 months. Octagam 10% (for ITP): Total dose is divided into 2 doses given on 2 consecutive days. Each infusion takes about 90 minutes. Dosage depends on age and body weight.
