Simponi ARIA IV Infusion Therapy
What is Simponi ARIA?
Simponi ARIA (golimumab) is a biologic drug used to treat adults with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis (RA) (in combination with methotrexate), active psoriatic arthritis (PsA), and active ankylosing spondylitis (AS).
How does Simponi ARIA work?
Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha is a protein in the immune system that helps regulate immune cells and inflammation in the body. Patients with RA, PsA, or AS have bodies that produce too much TNF-alpha, which can cause the immune system to mistakenly attack cells in the joints, spine, and skin. Remicade reduces inflammation and symptoms of these conditions by blocking TNF-alpha in the body.
How is Simponi ARIA administered?
Simponi ARIA is administered intravenously. The first two infusions are given during Week 0 and Week 4, then once every 8 weeks thereafter. Each infusion takes about 30 minutes. Doses are based on body weight.
