Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system attacks the lining of the joints (synovium), causing chronic joint pain and inflammation in areas such as the fingers, knees, and hips. Everyday tasks like getting out of bed, getting dressed, climbing stairs, and opening a jar become difficult.
